Said Imaam ‘Abdul-‘Azeez Ibn ‘Abillah Ibn Baaz : ”Allah, the sublime and exalted, has sent down in His Grand Book many ayaat where wasting and extravagance is mentioned along with the prohibition of both, and the praise of those who adopt the middle course and are moderate and Upright in their actions, eating, drinking and the rest of their spending. Therefore, there shouldn’t be any wastefulness, extravagance, miserliness, niggardliness, extremism, or negligence.” Thusly Allah has ordained for the middle course to be adopted in all affairs and from this is the prohibition of extremism.

This is a translation from At-Tasfiya wat-Tarbiya from an original lecture given by the author at the Sharee’ah Institute in Amman, Jordan.

“When you deal in eena and you hold onto the tails of cows and you are content with agriculture and you abandon jihaad, Allaah will inflict humiliation upon you and will not remove it until you return to your religion”

This hadeeth is from the signs of prophethood as you can see. And indeed, this humiliation has become a fact amongst us as is unfortunately visible. It is obligatory upon us that we acquire the remedy from this hadeeth after the disease has been described along with the humiliation it will produce. Indeed, we have hung on persistently to the illnesses which have led us the disease; which is none other that humiliation. Therefore, it is upon us that that we return to the application of the remedy which the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) described and which he made clear that if we return to it, Allaah will lift this humiliation from us.

The Evils of Music: The Devil’s Voice & Instrument by Imām Ibn al-Qayyim translation by @ImamStudent

    by Imām Ibn al-Qayyim

From the plots of the Shaytaan (Satan) and his traps which he uses to influence those who possess only a small share of knowledge, intellect, and religion – and with this he captures the hearts of the ignorant and the people of falsehood – is listening to whistling (al-mukaa), clapping (at-tasdiyyah), and singing accompanied by instruments, which are forbidden, that turns the hearts away from the Qur’aan and causes them to become preoccupied with disobedience and transgression.

From its harms is that the addict is a burden upon the society. He does not bring any good to his society nor is he successful in that which he brings forth.

From its harms is that the addict is despised and hated, even by the closest of people to him.

From its harms are the squandering of wealth and the inability to make noble earnings. So he resorts to earning wealth by way of criminal means. I seek Allaah’s refuge for me and for you.

From its harms is deterioration of one’s health and the contraction of incurable diseases, leading the person to death.

From its harms is the loss of dignity and inclining towards the wicked, from men or women.

From its harms is the shortening of life due to what it causes the destruction of the bodily organs and due to what it exposes the person to from grief and stress.

“Generation after generation was destroyed by wars because a man would seek the aid of his tribe, even if he was upon falsehood and the likes of that from trivial causes and despicable motives.

So Islam came to erase all of these loathsome outward practices in their lives when it made them equal with regards to the rights, and it made their slogans of allegiance to, “al-Islam”. And Islam made them excel over one another due to taqwa (righteousness) and obedience to Allah. So there is no excellence for an Arab over a non-Arab, nor is there any excellence for a non-Arab over an Arab, nor for a white person over a black one, nor for a black person over a white one, except due to taqwa.”

“Allah has made for his believing servants – in every situation [they encounter] – goodness from Himself. For they are constantly in [receipt of] bounty from their Lord irrespective of whether they encounter what they love or what they dislike.  And He made His ordainments and decrees which He ordains for them and decrees upon them as merchandise through which they may profit and as paths through which they may reach Him.”
